Maschine MIDI into FL Studio

Record MIDI from your Maschine controller directly into FL Studio, in real time.

Update, learned after filming: an iConnectivity mioXC (about $50) works as the pass-through device on its own. One MIDI in, one MIDI out, USB to the computer, no keyboard or interface needed.

What you need

The through device does not have to be a keyboard. Many audio interfaces also have five-pin MIDI In and Out ports and will work the same way.

How the signal flows

MIDI travels from the Maschine controller's MIDI Out, into the MIDI In on your through device. From there it moves through USB into your computer. Maschine does not send MIDI directly into FL Studio in a clean way on its own, so this is the workaround.

On the back of the Maschine MK3, a five-pin MIDI cable runs from the MIDI Out port into the MIDI In port on the keyboard. The USB cable from the MK3 and the USB cable from the keyboard both connect directly to your computer.

Why not just drag and drop?

You can drag loops or MIDI out of the Maschine plugin, but this setup lets you record in real time: play the pads, capture the performance straight into FL Studio's piano roll as it happens, timing and all.
